Great article, but I saw it too late! I am in the reverse position — I bates- numbered documents but did not know about the need to lock the numbers down. After producing the file to others, I then ocr’d my own version and started commenting on it (all in acrobat acrobat pro). After playing around with various settings to try to print out just the pages with the comments, I realized I had changed some setting such that my bates-numbers had been removed. When I retrieved the original file and opened it, my bates- numbers were gone. I’m assuming they are still in the file and that it’s just my settings that won’t allow me to see them.

Do you know what I can do to see the bates-numbers again? I am having the same problem as Briana (above) had, even though I re-downloaded and re-installed your Action twice. I also have Acrobat X. I get the same message as her, click “next”, select files, give the file a new name, click “save” and then get an error: “Output: An error was encountered while initializing the setting. Please check if it is valid.” I’ve tried using a pdf that I had given a bated stamp in, then one that had no previous stamp, thinking that might have to do with it. Neither worked, do you have any advice? This is a brand new PC that was set up Tuesday.
