I have a Canon Lide-30 USB scanner which I have used under Arch Linux many times-but not for 2 or 3 months. However, I was never able to configure hotplug to set the permissions automatically; I always had to become root and manually set the permissions in order to access the scanner as a regular user. Now, of course, the devices are all different (I mostly keep up with the latest release, dont really use testing packages, so I now have kernel 2.6.14). Heres whats happening: I plugged in the scanners USB cable after booting (my machines been up continuously for a few days, so I would have to shut down to do otherwise).Loaded the uhci-hcd module.
Now /proc/bus/usb is mounted, and it contains a node for my scanner. Run sane-find-scanner as root: found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 Canon, product=0x220e CanoScan, chip=LM9832/3) at libusb:001:002 Run sane-find-scanner as myself: same as above Run xsane as root: OK.Run xsane as myself: No devices found. # chmod 777 /dev/usbdev1.2 (which I think represents the scanner) # chmod 777 /dev/usbdev1.1 # chmod 777 /proc/bus/usb/001/002 # chmod 777 /proc/bus/usb/001/001 No change. I still cant access the scanner as myself.
By the way, it appears that the hotplug daemon wont start, though Im not quite sure why. There are no files in /var/log/hotplug. In /var/log/errors, I see DEVPATH is not set (subsystem pci) But according to a brief Google search, this is not a serious problem. So whats the magic formula?I'm getting that message after SL crashed on me today.I'm about nearly 3 days old in SL.
I was in Club Rez, and that's when for other people, not me, that it started to lag.then when I was teleporting to a different place from that Dream Garden place, it was taking a while to load and then boom.crash. I tried a bunch of times after waiting a bit to start up again, using my SL beta viewer, and I got the message, so I deleted and uninstalled, project viewers.which didn't work, then version 3.2.8.didn't work.Now I'm trying it again.
And it still doesn't work. Now I've gotten the intializing vfs message. I'm trying the steps from here: to see if it works.Once I restart, I'll post an update. Hi, I'm new to the virtual world of Fusion having only operated a Mac all my life (it seems).
I have only just created my virtual Windows XP world as I have acquired a slide/film scanner that is non-Mac. Having installed software from original CD and driver, all seems to be working until I load a slide or film and there is no image shown. I have a USB2 adaptor and the scanner power light is on.The scanner is recognised. I have tried re-booting both Virtual Windows and Mac but with no success. I have even sent back the scanner and have a new replacement.

Hi borisdusek Thanks for your prompt reply. Yes, I have connected via the USB Connect and both 64 and 86 bit scanner drivers are shown in the window. I have loaded each driver separately with no success.The Fusion version is 2.0.1 downloaded for a month trail before purchasing. The WindowsXP Home Edition is new and original CD.My MacBook Pro 15' is OS X 10.4.11 The Slide/Film Scanner is EU3C FilmScan35 I, powered through USB I've been through as much research as I can and the only reference I found to a similar problem was a mention of the USB needed to be USB 2 which I have overcome with a Targus 4-point USB adaptor that caters for USB and USB 2.
I've plugged my Cannon Digital camera in and had no problem transferring images into WindowsXP. I even used the same cable that came with the scanner and that worked fine as well. To run the Kodak RFS 3600 on a Win7-64 bit SP1 machine: 1. Install the Twain software.
Plug the scanner into the USB port 3. Turn on the scanner 4.Your computer will now try to install the drivers, but it will not succeed. You'll need to manually install the hardware by first choosing the type as Imaging device.
Then choose 'multiple frame scanner vendor.' This is a generic driver that will enable the computer to work with the RFS 3600. I have not tried this with a SCSI card, but I've been able to scan slides via USB.Can you send me the link for Twain software?

I recently upgraded my arch with: pacman -S filesystem -force Did some updates to fstab and rc.conf and everything seems to work as it did before. The only issue is that I get:CIFS VFS: Received no data, expecting 4every 30 second. Is there any settings for cifs that I can play with, I have not found any config-file for cifs and I only use smbclient. Without sounding daft, if it worked on Vista it should work on Windows 7. Windows 7 is supposedly set as Windows 6.5 (Vista was 6.0) in order to ensure all programs that worked on Vista work on W7 successfully. I know you have changed OS but have you also changed the type of OS.That is, was Vista a 32 Bit Version and you are now running a 64 Bit version of Windows 7? I know my Canonscan does not have a driver for 64 bit systems (lack of support from Canon there), so I have not used my 64 bit Disc.

I'm thinking of getting a Mac Pro in the new year after deciding to clear out my PC's.I'm just wondering if anyone has ever managed to get a Minolta Dimage scan multi (large film medium format film scanner) attached to a Mac Pro? It was connected to my PC via SCSI so wondered what options i have if any. Also i've seen a number of posts stating the Mac Pro really needs 3-4gb of memory to run apps well. Any reason for this as I find my MacMini and MacBook seem fairly decent on 1gb. Obviously photoshop is a little slow due to rosetta, but most other apps seem fine to me.Only app I tend to struggle with the beta of Adobe Lightroom which is much better on the MacBook anyway, but i'm thinking the slower hdd speed is the reason for poor performance of this.
Hi, first of all i love my archlinux, but now my Scanner Canon Canoscan Lide50, which used to work on Kubuntu, refuses to work on Archlinux.I added my user to the group scanner. $ sane-find-scanner found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 Canon, product=0x2213 CanoScan, chip=GL841) at libusb:001:006 $ scanimage -Ldevice `genesys:libusb:001:006 is a Canon LiDE 35/40/50 flatbed scanner $ scanimage -vscanimage: sanestart: Error during device I/O Any scanning, also with Xsane, is aborted in that way. Has anyone a Canon Lide (=50) running and can give me a hint?

What you have already tried to fix the problem Please, in the future, delete all the above verbiage when asking a question. It has nothing to do with your question.And ask your questions in the body of the message, not in the title. The title should be used only for a brief description of what the question is about.Whenever you change to a new version of Windows, you need to install drivers (software that provides the interface between the hardware and Windows) for printers, scanners, video cards, etc., that have been written for that new version of Windows. And also note that you need different drivers for a 32-bit version of Windows and a 64-bit version. It's up to the manufacturer of the hardware to write and make available for download those drivers.Especially if your hardware is older, it may well be that the manufacturer has decided that it's not worth his time and effort to develop drivers for hardware that he is no longer selling.
Check with the manufacturer or on their web site to see if a driver exists. If it doesn't, you're out of luck.Also check their web sites in other countries, if there are any; sometimes you can find the driver you need that way.
So in the future, before you do such an upgrade, be sure that you've done the appropriate research to find out what drivers don't exist, and therefore what hardware you will have to replace if you upgrade. Ken Blake (MS MVP). Gun26: all the so files were there but brother.conf was missing so i tried creating the file with a single line reading usb. That didnt work so I tried adding in the vendor and product id that lsusb gave me but still nothing.I did follow archlinuxsagis advice and use built the drivers from AUR and BOOM it showed up when i did scanimage -L. After a bit of frustration in trying to figure out how to get GIMP setup to use my scanner (hint: make sure xsane and sane-frontends are installed), I tested it out and it is working beautifully.

I SOLVED I replaced the original epson, epson2 and epkowa drivers with the drivers installed on a notebook with Fedora16 (and sane 1.0.23), and now epkowa profile works good with all resolutions!

Perhaps someone might make a useful suggestion?? I have had a NIKON SF-210 slide/film scanner now for a couple or three years. However, I only started using it heavily last Fall (2008) to scan my large archive of old family slides. Unfortunately, as time has passed, the software has become more and more unstable causing me to have to restart the whole process after scanning only a small number of slides. Sometimes, it will not scan even one slide before crashing.
