Im not going to say get one and use it illegaly, but i dont see the harm as long as it has the correct channel spacings and deviation.

I have a wouxon kg-uvd1p, i use it on 2m and 70cms mostly. Each to their own but for the price vs functionality then its win win.I have 3 Wouxun handies 2 KG-669's (going for £42 on ebay) and the kg-uvd1p (£72 on e-bay) direct from China and would highly recommend them. My KG-UVD1P is a great radio for the money. It's very wrong when you think about it. Many people getting such advice have never even had a cb before. CTCSS tones test a lot of peoples desire to learn more.
A Ham radio is just too much.Get a legit pmr radio op. It will do what you need it too, and some dumb.
won't sit on it and break the aerial off. Plus you get two, which you will need as finding another user just out for a chat is a very very rare thing. Your really just buying walkie talkies for you and whoever. When I lend 'whoever' a set, I generally find I'm taking it off them after a while, following a mad button pushing session where the tones get screwed. So keeping it simple is a must. I recently observed that the single rotary control on many scanners and ham sets is multifunction, chosen through menu's. The default setting on a 446 radio is likely to be volume.

This is what most folks expect from electronics that make noise. On a ham set it's channel change. Which can be a real annoyance while chatting to your mate. You have no desire to change channel, but as you move about you really need that volume to hand. The legit 446 radio is designed for purpose, and i would say the better choice. The antenna socketfeck. I can't stand this key logging slow ass cant keep up with my typing speed pc any longer.
I'm chucking the dummy and flattening it this instant. Friendly1uk, I think you have raised a valid point and possibly I for one am too eager to recommend radios that may not be suitable for a novice to use.If you want to use for example a KG-UVD1P on PMR446 the I would suggest using the free software that can lock the radio so that it can only transmit on the PMR446 channels.I would recommend that anyone new to the hobby consider doing this to minimise the risk of accidentally transmitting out of band and causing interference to other users.if anyone needs the file please let me know.
